Cool penguincat, it depends. You will definitely need a capture card. We use a Dazzle DVC 100 which works well, but streams in non HD. You will also need a microphone of some sort. That will allow you to stream game footage and you talking. You'll need some other things if you want to stream yourself as well like a webcam and a software that will handle multiple windows (we use software called WebCamMax).
I can give you a more detailed answer when I'm home if you'd like.

I'm a little bit worried about my internet speed. Reading the settings I feel it wont be good enough. If it isn't then there is nothing really I can do though. Use wireless and watch my quota run out in under a hour lol.

Haha, let us know if you do get your streaming up, we can check it out. Also, if you have questions on streaming I can help you out...or at least try.

I was told 300kbit upload was bare minimum when I said I had 1.1mbit they just said cap the video to ~950kbit. sound will be 21kbit. So that's under my cap. My channel is www.ustream.tv/channel/penguincat-gaming I can't give a decent time as to when I'll be streaming though.

Been busy with stuff.
I might do a test hard drive broadcast later on today depending on what time I wake up. I do plan on doing a broadcast to myself only see if I can edit myself to sound like I'm a guy and not a girl. If I'm happy with how I sound then starting next week I'll do broadcasts.
Chances are anything I do will be at like 10am EDST sort of thing. I'll have the house to myself. Internet activity will have dropped so less likely to have lag and packet loss.
Gaming charity marathons I think wont be do-able. I sleep too much and I have no one to fill in for me.

After watching a guy called monotonetim I have a itch to do marathons and similar sort of stuff. So I was wondering what do I need equipment and software wise do I need to be able to do it? These are the drawbacks that I have My uploads are counted. But I do have a spare quota that I never use. This month will be less I have used 70gig most of which has been watching the tim guy I mentioned. Going on current usage levels this months I will be around 110gig. my quota is 200gig. My upload speed 1.1mbits which I think is like 360p standard If you want any tips on streaming, we have a guide going up on our site. gengame.net/streaming-wiki/ Breaking into it I'd recommend you get a Dazzle DVC 100 or 101. (same thing) If you use Windows you can find a few easy streaming softwares like FMLE, or if you use Ustream you could use the Ustream Producer. If you plan to do emulators you could essentially rig up a stream for free if your computer can handle it. Just download X-Split and an emulator. X-Split captures your desktop so if you're shy you can have someone talk and co-commentate with you via Skype. If you have the PC I would really suggest you use X-Split and an emulator because it just simplifies everything.

Yeah thanks. Plan was to use a emulator at first then go out and get hardware and other stuff. I bought x-split a little while ago so I'm using that. (even though it is free while in beta.) My computer should handle it fine. If it doesn't Id be very disappointed in it. I bought it in March or something.
Well I did have a go video and game sound seems good. Me talking on the other hand not so well. Sounds like I'm very far away its so soft even when near screaming. Even with the mic boosted to max.
I may get a new mic when I return the wrong stuff I bought. (bought a network cable 3 times as long as I needed and the wrong adapter for the tv.) Any closer to my face and I would have been eating it so it isn't a distance thing. Plus I did try further away and that too.

I really need to go out and get a new one too.

Well that was embarrassing. I just thought while typing here, "isn't there a switch on the side on the mic thing? I wonder if it was on or off." Turns out it was off. A fail for penguincat. Tried it again with it on and I can hear myself quite well. I still sound like a kid at-least it isn't a girl kid. Does sound about normal for me though. Still going to see what the shop has though.
Edit: Went to shop did forget to look but wasn't anyone to ask though.

So I decided I'm going to do a test stream tonight this time for public viewing. Not sure on a time though. Depends on sleep what I have for dinner as to how long I'll be awake for. But hey if I do end up sleeping I bet it will be like this time onwards.
I'm not expecting anyone here to show up or anyone in general really. It's more of a what can I broadcast as a max bit rate. No other reason.
Will not have me talking on it. I found a channel that is popular and doesn't have any talking so yeah. Maybe one day if I become popular and can't keep up with the chat etc.

Did my first public broadcast. Problem I thought of after I started how do I record videos to ustream. lol From what I could tell watching it live on firefox it does seem to need a little more quality seen worse. But not much I can do about it though stupid upload speed limit.

Any idea's on what to have the game sound as. bit wise?
The picture looks quite nice I think I don't know how to save it on ustream lol. Seems some game sounds are missing and hissing when playing it back from the hard drive though.

Ok so I need to borrow a person to give me feed back when the stream is live. I did have one person other then me watch before but they weren't in the chat at all. I think I may have fixed the sound problem I now have it at mono 48kbit I also put the video to 800x600 picture wise and it seems fine. So I need a person to watch to see if this goes off into the internet fine or if its all yucky. If stuff needs to be turned down picture or turned up for sound. Message me at twitter.com/GothicChocobo if you have nothing better to do and see if I'm around.

Nice man, I think to record there should be a record button right above or below the start/stop broadcasting button. That's how it displays for us at least.
