First, my thoughts are that they are a good thing.
With trophies/cheevos, I get a great sense of satisfaction knowing I really got the full experience out of a game.
My experiences are quality over quantity now. I like that much more than the haphazard way i used to play. Again, this is just me...im not saying people who dont go for achievements dont get the most out of their games, this is just me.
Of course, going for said trophies are only worth it if the game Im playing is worth my time, so i try to choose wisely. Im not saying i base my game choices on trophies, i just mean i only play games i THINK i am going to be willing to put in all of the time to go for 100%.
I wont force myself to go for 100% on a game i cant stand, like Splatterhouse(TERRIBLE) or Castlevania LoS.
I know alot of this board consists of retro gamers, but for anyone who has an opinion, whats yours?

i love achievements.....but sometimes a little to much, being a perfectionist that i am i tend to play a game more than i should just to try to get one achievement, but in the end i still enjoy getting those achievements that very few people have and like you said, it gives me a sense of accomplishment

I used to be much bigger on achievements, and I do like them, they add replay value to a game, but I won't force myself (like you said Hawk) to 100% a game if I don't care enough to. I also like having achievements that not many have (like you said d3adly), like the "Grand Pearl Pooh Bah" achievement I have in Hexic (it took me a while, but I was proud once I got it). I have so many games to play now though that I'm just happy if I can beat it lol
